When I first sat down to write CRY HAVOC, I knew the story would touch Vietnam—but I didn’t realize just how deeply I’d have to immerse myself in the era. From memoirs and after-action reports to maps, field manuals, and oral histories, the resources I turned to helped strip away modern bias and put me squarely in-country with the men of MACV-SOG.
If you have read Carr’s earlier James Reece thrillers, this one takes us back to 1968 and the protagonists is Reece’s father, Tom Reece. He’s a character we know from the earlier books, but you certainly don’t need to know too much back story because enough is explained in Cry Havoc.
